SCGC makes a record achievement of a year with zero Lost Time Injuries in all plants.
For the first time, Suez Cement group of Companies (SGCG) plants “Kattameya, Suez, Helwan and Tourah” have achieved a year with zero Lost Time Injuries, a matter that reflects the relentless efforts made by all SCGC staff and subcontractors in applying safe work and best vocational practices. The achievement emphasized SCGC commitment towards providing a safe work environment at all levels. SCGC hosts 1,297 employees and 1,149 subcontractor workers.
Time-wasting injuries are injuries occurring in the work sites leading to deaths, permanent disability, or loss of time. They are a recognized standard that urges everyone to commit to safety standards. In this context, absence of time-wasting incidents stresses commitment to applicable health and safety standards adopted by SCGC.
"Safety is our key priority and an integral part of our established culture in our business. We were successful if translating this continued commitment into concrete results thanks for the accurate development and implementation of policies and systems as well as the safest work practices", said Jose Maria.
"There is no doubt that strictly developing and implementing health and safety systems, coupled with our continued commitment to a comfortable work environment to all staff, have led to this achievement. We appreciate the commitment by our staff and subcontractors to apply and promote safety standards", he added.
Application of safety practices in the workplace is a key requirement to reduce time-wasting incidents. This achievement is attributed to several factors that puts SCGC in the lead in terms of vocation health and safety. These factors include:
• Detailed vocation health and safety plans, including risk management strategies;
• Systematic recording of any remarks in all group plants;
• Strict application of systems and continued discussions between plant managers and their teams to highlight any potential risks;
• Annual celebration of safety week and awarding staff and subcontractors for their efforts in all plants.
"We will continue with our commitment to these strict policies and improving them. This achievement gives us a positive starting point, looking forward to celebrate a new record next year", Jose Maria concluded.
SCGC Health and Safety Director, Mohamed Shoala, noted that the group's resilience has helped us, staff, and subcontractors, to come back more strongly. The achievement is the fruit of collective work and full commitment to making the work environment free from incidents and injuries. We appreciate the performance of staff and subcontractors and their serious contribution to this achievement. The health and safety of our staff and subcontractors are our key priority.
