Opening of the first technical workshops to integrate biodiversity in industry

Egyptian Ministry of Environmental and Convention on Biological Diversity (UN) organized an “International Expert Workshop on Biodiversity Mainstreaming in the Sectors of Energy, Mining, Manufacturing, Processing and Infrastructure” in Cairo, Egypt from 20 - 22 June 2018”. This is the 1st preparation workshop for the UN Conference of the Parties (COP 14) for Biological Diversity that will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, 17 - 29 November 2018.
 
Suez Cement Company and HeidelbergCement have nominated to present their best practices in the field of biodiversity protection in the quarry. M. Khaled Hussein “Corporate Quarry Manager” presented the positive actions has been made in both of Suez Cement and HeidelbergCement in this field, as well as the idea of Quarry Life Award that lunched by HeidelbergCement in 2010. Today the award`s ceremony of the 4th edition will be organized in Brussels, Belgium in 5th of Dec. 2018. Most of the audiences appreciated the idea of the QLA.
 
The participants covered more than 20 countries all over the world, most of them are biological scientists and/or MGO`s members. It is the 1st time for the Convention on Biological diversity to invite representatives from the business and indusial sectors in order to create an open dialog between the both parties
