Suez Cement builds the smile of Cement Kafr El Elw School
Cairo, 13 March 2008. Within the framework of the development projecttitled “For the smile of our Children” promoted by Suez Cement group,
composed by Suez Cement Company, Helwan Cement Company and Tourah Portland Cement Company, and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, under the endorsement of Cairo Governorate, Cement Kafr El Elw Primary School - one of the ten schools beneficiaries of the project, newly revamped and refurbished by the Company - has been inaugurated y sterday in Kafr El Elw district.
By welcoming the close and successful partnership established with the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood and the Cairo Governorate, Roberto Callieri, Managing Director of Suez Cement, stated that the Company is proud of contributing to improve the living standards of Kafr El Elw and Al Maasara communities in practical and tangible way.
“As socially responsible company, Suez Cement attaches a great attention to education. But, we firmly believe that it is not only important to revamp and refurbish the school, it is fundamental to support the project by fostering a sense of responsibility and proactive civil citizenship. We are excited about continuing on this path of progress and addressing key local concerns” added Mr. Callieri.
The new building offers to its 750 pupils new warmer, brighter and attractive classrooms and a green corner which provides the children an opportunity to be initiated to environmental activities and become environmental leaders in their communities. Thus the project organizes also green corner competition among the schools of the area as further awareness- raising activity. It tackles also other social issues such us illiteracy, children’s rights and health.
The event was attended by the Member of Parliament, Mr. Moustafa Bakry, the plant manager of Helwan Cement, Eng. Ahmed El Sawy, the plant manager of Tourah Portland Cement Company, Eng. Ahmed Aboelenein,religious leaders of the area, and representatives of the local NGOs as well as representatives of different Ministries who are also involved in the project’s implementation.
In 2007, Suez Cement donated L.E. 4,000,000 for this pilot development project which aims to support the local communities of Kafr El Elw and El Maasara areas by providing access to quality basic infrastructure and services, especially in the field of education.
