Kattameya Cement plant won the 1st place at the “The Greenest Companies in Egypt for 2012”

On the occasion of the World Environment Day, Kattameya plant, one of the five cement plants of Suez Cement Group of Companies (SCGC), was honored with the first prize certificate “The Greenest Company in Egypt” a certificate commemorating the company’s green achievements and proactive green behavior in the cement industry. H.E. Khaled Fahmy, the Minister of Environment, presented the award to Mr. Mohamed Ayman, the Environment Manager of Suez Cement Group of Companies.

The award honors the cement facilities that exemplify the spirit of continuous environmental improvements and implement actions to minimize the environmental impact of its activities. Commenting on the award, Mr. Ayman said: “Environmental care is one of our corporate values. SCGC has been continuously investing towards a better Egypt and a cleaner environment and has made a long-term commitment towards being environmentally responsible. Our five cement plants, ISO 14001,IS0 9001 and OHSAS 18001 certified, have adopted and strictly complied with the environmental laws of Egypt and work in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Affairs to ensure the environmental standards of each plant are on target.”

Moving forward, the SCGC is also strongly committed to raising awareness about environmental challenges among its stakeholders and its employees. To actively celebrate the World Environment Day SCGC joined hands with INJAZ NGO to host the Environment Day in Helwan Cement Plant engaging its employees and more than 150 children. The programme of the Day included painting and planting activities as well as a session dedicated to the waste management, waste recycling and saving energy.
