Quarry Operator

Job Purpose
Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of crushing equipment used to break down raw materials such as rocks and minerals into smaller, usable sizes for further processing, ensures that crushers are operating efficiently and safely, meets production targets, and adheres to safety, quality, and environmental standards, plays a key role in ensuring continuous material flow from the quarry to the processing areas.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor crushers, conveyors, screens, and related equipment to break down raw materials into required sizes.
  • Set up and adjust crushers for optimal performance according to the material type and production specifications.
  • Monitor crushing parameters (e.g., feed rates, material sizes, and energy consumption) to ensure efficiency.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections of crushing equipment, including checking for wear, lubricating parts, and replacing components as needed.
  • Identify and troubleshoot operational issues or breakdowns and take corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Perform basic repairs and coordinate with maintenance teams for more complex repairs.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring that all safety systems are in place and functioning.
  • Ensure that crushing operations comply with environmental regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Conduct safety checks on equipment before operation to prevent accidents or equipment failures.
  • Report any hazards, incidents, or unsafe practices to the Quarry Manager immediately.
  • Monitor and ensure that the crushed material meets the required size specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform regular checks on product quality, ensuring that production targets and material specifications are met.
  • Adjust crusher settings and parameters as needed to optimize material quality and output.
  • Work closely with other team members in the quarry to ensure a steady flow of materials for crushing and minimize production delays.
  • Communicate with the Quarry Manager regarding equipment performance, maintenance needs, and production progress.
  • Assist in training new operators on equipment operations, safety protocols, and best practices.
  • Maintain records of equipment performance, maintenance activities, and material production.
  • Provide regular reports on daily production rates, equipment status, and any operational issues to the Quarry Manager.
  • Document and report any repairs, adjustments, or maintenance completed on equipment.
  • Ensure work areas around crushers and related equipment are clean and free from debris to maintain safe working conditions.
  • Perform cleaning and upkeep of the crushing area and equipment to prevent dust accumulation and ensure safe operation.
  • Participate or lead ad-hoc projects that may go beyond formal accountabilities to satisfy and respond accordingly to business needs.
  • Proactively manage Health & Safety process and procedures to achieve the company ambition of ‘0 Lost Time Injuries’ and to continuously improve the company's Health & Safety performance.
  • Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of Group guidelines, performing trainings, monitoring compliance etc.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical certification or training in quarry operations, machinery operation, or a related field is a plus.

Experience 

  • At least 2 years of experience as Operator for heavy machinery is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of different types of crushers, screens, and conveyors used in material processing.
  • Familiarity with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of crushing equipment.
  • Understanding of basic geology and material types to determine crushing settings and processes.
