Helwan Cement sponsors Present and Future of Local and Global Climate Change Conference
Helwan Cement, a subsidiary of Suez Cement group of Companies, is officially sponsoring the conference of Present and Future of Local and Global Climate Changes organized by Helwan University in 3-5 October 2022 at the university headquarters.
The conference is held under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Presence is expected to include academic and community leaders from sustainable development, IT, engineering, and green economy sectors.
On this occasion, Suez Cement Managing Director, Mohamed Hegazy, says that SCGC, being one of Egypt's biggest cement producers, is aware of its responsibility for the current and future impacts on climate change and that CO2 emissions have a direct impact on the entire world's environmental situation. Mr. Hegazi stressed SCGC's special attention to integrate its strategies regarding industrial efficiency and innovation with climate protection and minimizing dependance of natural resources.
Helwan cement plant manager, Saeed Abu Hussein said that Our sustainability efforts are in line with both Egypt's vision of 2030 as well as our commitments to reduce our CO2 emissions, and the impact resulting from activating energy efficiency improvement and wasted energy recovery project at the Helwan plant is represented to collect the wasted energy in the kiln while transferring it into electric energy without any need of additional fuel. He added that this technique gives no greenhouse gases while it saves nearly 40.000 tons of carbon dioxide annually, the matter which reduces effects of climate change and transfer new technique in this field. Abu Hussein noted that this technique is an environment-friendly system for energy generating, where it is the first time to apply this system in the Egyptian cement industry.
Taking part in the conference, SCGC continues its positive participation in many key events over the year, including the International Conference on Sustainable Green Construction and Nano Technology, and the General Conference of Seismic Commission of Asian and African States. This participation confirms SCGC commitment to strengthen its regional and international presence in different local and international forums to enhance the company's image and further establish its position among the world's biggest industrial organizations.
