Helwan Cement sponsors activities of "Go Green" initiative

In continuation of the non-stop efforts by the Suez Cement Group of Companies (SCGC) to serve the community and out of its keenness to participate in the environmental initiatives and activities, Helwan Cement Company supported the "Go Green" initiative to expand the green area in the region surrounding the plant through planting new trees and pruning old trees.

Head of Helwan district Dr. Ahmad El-Qzzaz, Head of the Central Department of Environmental Compliance and Inspection Dr. Ahmad El-Bagouri, the General Manager of Environmental Inspection Eng. Hisham Abul-Azm, and a number of the company's employees in cooperation with the executive bodies in Helwan district participated in the initiative.

This comes in activation of the Group’s role in serving the communities surrounding its plants and societal participation through various initiatives for the interest of society. This initiative aims at protecting the environment and natural resources to ensure their sustainability in addition to spreading awareness of sound behaviors and right practices towards the environment. At the very beginning, a team of volunteers have cleaned the area surrounding the plant and removed wastes in preparation for the planting of trees.

The participants have planted trees along the road where they expressed happiness to participate in planting trees. They also stressed importance of supporting the environmental initiatives and combination of efforts by all groups of society to spread awareness of the importance of planting thus providing pure environment for citizens.

Eng. Moataz Yousry, Helwan plant manager, said that this initiative aims to strengthen connection between the company and the surrounding environment thus providing pure environment for citizens. He added that the initiative has several goals including short-term ones in terms of cleanliness and raising awareness of adopting the behaviors that preserve the environment as a common responsibility between citizens and the State, as well as long-term ones that aim to have the citizens aware of protecting the environment and natural resources while merging them in the environmental work in light of the increasing climate changes. He also stressed the Group’s commitment to the principles of sustainability 2030, the matter which should be present in our minds and daily activities.

For his part, Head of the Central Department of Environmental Compliance and Inspection Dr. Ahmad El-Bagouri stressed importance of the initiative in improving the environment and highlighting tree planting. He said that this initiative comes to achieve of Egypt's vision 2030 to preserve the natural resources and contribute in reducing impacts of climate change on cities, villages and roads while minimizing the high rates of desertification and spreading the culture of planting. He thanked all participants in this initiative.

For his part, Head of Helwan district Dr. Ahmad El-Qzzaz stressed importance of supporting the initiatives that contribute in the civilized development, protection of the environment and increase of green areas, which add beautiful, environmental and health dimensions for the benefit of everyone.

It is noteworthy that the "Go Green" initiative was launched by SCGC in 2018 to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment, highlight the Group's environmental policy and non-stop efforts in the field of environment protection, while at the same time activate the Group’s contributions to achieve goals of Egypt Vision 2030 through supporting afforestation and increasing green spaces in its plants and surrounding areas in a way that raises the environmental awareness and protection of public health.
